Marrakech Airport to the Medina: the honest guide
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is 6 km from the Medina, about 15 to 20 minutes by car. Official petit taxis run on a meter inside the city, but the airport route is charged as a fixed zone price. That zone price is not always the price a driver quotes, and at night many meters are simply switched off. If you take a taxi at the airport, agree the exact price before closing the door, ideally in dirhams.
Most reports of Marrakech airport taxi problems follow the same patterns: a driver who refuses to use the meter, a price that changes when you arrive, a stop at a carpet or leather shop on the way, or a car that is older than the one promised. None of these ruin a trip, but all of them are easier to avoid than to solve at 11 pm in front of the airport.

Attention: common airport taxi situations
None of these are dramatic, but they are all better to know before you land in Marrakech:
- The driver says the meter is broken — agree the price first, or walk to the official taxi rank.
- A stop at a shop "for a quick look" is not part of the trip — refuse politely.
- The night surcharge is real — the price after 22:00 is higher than the daytime zone price.
- Your riad is inside the Medina, where only small cars can enter. Say your address clearly before agreeing to any price.
